Special Education Training Specialist

Measurement Incorporated seeks a full-time Special Education Training Specialist for the North Country region of New York State. The North Country region covers the following BOCES regions: 1. Clinton- Essex-Warren-Washington, 2. Franklin-Essex-Hamilton, and 3. St. Lawrence – Lewis. (https://www.boces.org/contact-a-boces/)

The Special Education Training Specialist will provide training and technical support to districts and schools within the North Country region on the special education process including, Individual Education Program (IEP) development and implementation, consistent with federal and NY State law, regulation and guidance. Due to the nature of the work, onsite PD and TA, current residency in the North Country or a willingness to relocate is required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a Master’s degree or higher in special education, education, psychology/counseling, literacy or related field of study
  • Experience delivering professional development and/or technical assistance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching licensure in special education or related field.
  • At least two years’ experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting.
  • Experience with the NYSED Special Education process, such as having been a CSE Chairperson, subcommittee chairperson, or special Ed. Director/Supervisor.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to excel in a team environment.
  • Experience using web-based educational tools and technologies (e.g., Zoom, WebEx, etc.).

Responsibilities:

The Special Education Training Specialist will provide professional development and technical assistance via regional site-based trainings. The main focus of the professional development will be the NYS special education process and requirements as established in law and regulations. Topics will include CSE Chairperson Training, IEP Development, Progress Monitoring of IEPs, and other topics as determined by NYSED and regional needs assessment. The Special Education Training Specialist will work collaboratively with other special education training specialists in a team approach, as well as with other NYSED-funded partners, to meet the needs of the North Country region.

Travel is required weekly and on a daily basis at times. Travel will span approximately a 1-3 hour travel radius across the North Country. Service delivery will be provided through both on-site and online delivery methods.

The Special Education Training Specialist position is part of a five-year contract with the NYSED and will begin immediately upon hire. Salary is commensurate with experience. Yearly calendar of 10 or 12 months is negotiable.

Professional Development Specialist: School Climate and Safety

Measurement Incorporated (MI) seeks one, full-time Professional Development Specialist.

The Specialist will be responsible for developing and delivering professional development sessions around school safety, school climate, and social-emotional learning. Services include providing technical assistance to schools, districts, and families around safety issues, including but not limited to the Dignity for All Students Act and Project SAVE legislation. Responsibilities include responding to email and phone inquiries, as well as conducting focus groups and interviews during site visits. The Specialist will work with districts and schools throughout New York State. Travel to schools within NY is required; services are also provided online using web-conferencing technology such as Zoom.

Superior writing, oral communication, and organizational skills are required. Experience with data and knowledge of systems change are preferred. Must work well as a member of a team and must be willing to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.

Preferred experience includes a Master’s degree in education, or related field, and appropriate classroom/school experience. Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience planning and conducting professional development sessions and/or providing technical assistance to districts/schools will be considered.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
