Literacy Training Specialist: FT Albany, NY Seeking a full-time Literacy Training Specialist for the Capital region of New York State.  The Capital region includes the following BOCES regions: 1. Capital Region, 2. Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery, 3. Questar III, and 4. Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex.

The Literacy Training Specialist will provide training and technical assistance to districts and schools within the Capital region on topics related to the acquisition of literacy skills within a multi-tiered systems of support, with a focus on students with disabilities.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a Master’s degree or higher in literacy, special education, education, psychology, or related field.

  • Experience delivering professional development and/or technical assistance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching licensure in Reading, Special Education, or related field.

  • At least two years’ classroom teaching experience in a literacy-related capacity.

  • At least two years’ experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting.

  • Experience as a literacy coach, or in a similar role.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to excel in a team environment.

  • Experience using web-based educational tools and technologies (e.g., Zoom, WebEx, etc.).

 

Responsibilities:

 

The Literacy Training Specialist will provide professional development and technical assistance via regional and site-based training and coaching. The main focus of this support will be to assess and improve systems of literacy instruction and supports for students with disabilities using a data-driven approach within a multi-tiered system. The Literacy Training Specialist will work collaboratively with other training specialists in a team approach, as well as with other NYSED-funded partners, to meet the needs of the Capital region.

 

Travel is required weekly and on a daily basis at times. Travel will span approximately a 1-3 hour travel radius across the Capital region.  Service delivery will be provided through both on-site and online delivery methods. 

 

The Literacy Training Specialist position is part of a five-year contract with the NYSED and will begin immediately upon hire. Salary is commensurate with experience. Yearly calendar of 10 or 12 months is negotiable.

  • At least two years’ experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting.

  • Ability to excel in a team environment.
