Mrs. Seymour is a highly experienced professional with over 23 years of experience in the area of special education.  She has spent her career dedicated to the programming and outcomes for students with disabilities.  She has been a special education teacher at a variety of levels, an elementary school Principal and a Shared Special Education Director in two small rural schools in New York.  As Director of Special Education, she evaluated teachers and related service providers in line with the district’s APPR process, developed partnerships with community resources, and expanded and designed additional programs on the continuum for students with disabilities.  Abby has provided regional training workshops related to the improvement of the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Preschool Education (CPSE) process, the development of meaningful Individualized Education Programs (IEP), and the use of data to drive specially designed instruction for students with disabilities.

  • Chairperson of the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) and the Committee on Special Education (CSE)

  • Section 504 Coordinator - Facilitated the implementation of the district’s policies and procedures related to Section 504/ADA, and ensured consistent application across the district

  • Coordinated revisions to district policies and procedures related to Special Education, as necessary, to ensure they are up-to-date and consistent with current requirements

  • Formulated procedures for new or revised processes or activities based on NYS Regulations

  • Ensured the strategic allocation and equitable use of financial and human resources to meet instructional goals and support staff needs

  • Prepared reports for federal and state agencies

  • Supervised teachers, paraprofessionals and related service providers

  • Worked effectively with outside agencies to provide necessary resources for student population

  • Trained teachers in the area of Wilson Reading Instruction/Foundations and multi-sensory techniques for helping students with special needs

  • 18 years of teaching experience in special education in elementary, middle-level and high school

  • Designed and implemented specific interventions and tested students using a wide range of assessments

  • Early Literacy Coordinator for 2 elementary buildings

  • Assisted in the development and writing of the District’s RTI plan
